  Museum collection

The Museum collection consists of two areas:

Art collection: The University seeks to develop and maintain a permanent collection of high quality works of visual art for the cultural enrichment of its student body, staff and wider community. The art collection consists largely of works by Australian artists, dating from 1909. The collection also includes various contemporary prints, ceramics, graphics, paintings and sculptures chiefly by graduates, postgraduates and staff of the University.

Historical collection: The University has an extensive collection of historical material dating from the opening of the Ballarat School of Mines in 1870. Over 10,000 items in the collection are currently catalogued. A selection of these can be accessed digitally via the Library catalogue.

Borrowing Information

Items held in the Museum collection are generally not available for loan; however they may be accessed by appointment with the Curator. Detailed access and borrowing information is available via the Art and Historical collection website.

Opening Hours

All campus libraries are open throughout the year; but closed on designated University and public holidays, and staff development and planning days. Opening/closing times vary depending on whether it is a semester/term period, an exam/swotvac week or a non-teaching/vacation period.
