Citation and referencing - Australian style

The Australian style manual presents three methods of citation:

  • the documentary-note system (using footnotes or endnotes)
  • the Vancouver system (using numerals)
  • the author-date system, otherwise known as the Harvard system.

UB recognises the author-date (Harvard) system as recommended by the Australian style manual. The author-date method (also used by the APA and Chicago manuals) is widely accepted in the physical, natural and social sciences. It comprises brief in-text citations and a comprehensive list of references.
