Selecting and ordering Library resourcesWe rely on the specialist knowledge of academic and teaching staff to help us develop collections appropriate for the needs of the University of Ballarat. To assist academics to select relevant texts and materials to build the collections, we provide services such as the online subject profiles and the distribution of printed publishers’ blurbs which highlight new and forthcoming titles. Upon request we can also compile tailored subject bibliographies from which selections can be made, a particularly useful service for academics and teachers who are preparing new units or revising recommended reading lists. Order requests for library materials can be submitted via:
Some schools require that all order requests go through a central library liaison staff member; if you are uncertain please check with your school's administrative officer. When sending an order request to the Library, it is important that consideration is given to the amount of time that Acquisitions staff may need to arrange for material to be purchased and processed. It is also important that you keep sending purchase requests to the Library, regardless of the budget situation throughout the year. Order requests will be prepared and held, pending release of available funds, or the next budget cycle. Orders in the pending file appear in the Catalogue with the status 'under consideration'. Please note that when general library material is superseded by a new edition, only one copy of all previous editions is retained in the collection. If you require multiple copies of previous editions to be retained for teaching/research purposes, please contact the Acquisitions Librarian.
